Social Media Superstar Zach King Awards KITS $350,000
Updated: Apr 21, 2022
Orange County-based filmmaker Zach King’s magical and uplifting viral video content delights viewers all over the world. With a combined social media reach of over 100 million followers, the Guinness World Records’ “Most Followed Male On TikTok” is one of today’s most prominent creators.
In December 2021, YouTube’s 10 biggest stars (including King) competed to win $1 million in a game of Hide and Go Seek hosted by Mr. Beast at SoFi Stadium. Upon winning the prize, King said he would put it toward “foster care and filmmaking ventures”.
King has made many generous charitable donations with this windfall, the largest of which was awarded to Kids In The Spotlight (KITS).
On Thursday, April 21, the King team launched the announcement video:
“My wife and I are foster parents, and we’ve been involved with this nonprofit called Kids In The Spotlight, which teaches foster youth how to be filmmakers,” King said.
King invited the KITS team and four KITS alumni to a tour of his film studio, where he surprised them with a $350,000 check. King’s giveaway video documents the surprise.
In her emotional response, KITS Executive Director Tige Charity told King, “We’ve been in existence for 13 years, coming May. We’ve never gotten a grant in this amount before. I am so overwhelmed with gratitude.”
The funds will go toward the planned KITS Production Studio for a Cause social enterprise.
In 2023, KITS plans to launch the full-scale Production Studio for a Cause, an education center located in L.A.’s Studio Zone, designed to link L.A. County foster youth ages 18-24 to training and jobs in the entertainment industry.
Zach and his wife Rachel King met the KITS team for the first time at the 2021 KITS Film Awards, where King served as an awards presenter. The Kings have two boys and have been foster parents for the past five years.
